In this last weekend of National Codependent Awareness Month, would you like to share how you’re feeling today? If so, a Zoom or in-person meeting may be just the place for you.

It’s been over 30 years since I attended my first Al-Anon meeting. No Zoom meetings then, up close and personal was the format and because I believed I had failed in my marriage, my constant companion, Shame tagged along. On the following chart, the emotions I would have picked to describe myself at that first meeting were. . .

Afraid -fearful

Thank God, I never felt judged. Meeting after meeting, the Experience, Strength, and Hope of the others in the room affirmed my worth. I kept going back because I believed in the slogan, “It works if you Work it.”

How about you, are you ready to share how you feel? In the privacy of your safe space, take a piece of paper, and write an emotion or two, or three, describing how you really feel. Dig deep and keep the pen moving until you’ve come to the core of your deepest feeling. You see, you’re working on the First Step already. Admitting how we feel.

I will be praying, like me, you’ll keep coming back knowing “it” – the 12-Step program works if you Work it.”

Reach out if you need to talk, there’s a Zoom meeting waiting to welcome you.

“Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you” (John 8:32 MSG).
