If you’ve managed to stay in Step all year, then congratulate yourself for reaching the 12th month and the 12th Step.
Step 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
This month the critical message we carry to others is to alert them of the deadly danger during the holidays—the 3D’s—drunk and drugged driving.
Healthylivingonline.org is doing its part to alert us of the risks involved by posting the following sobering facts.
Help Educate Your Community… Impaired driving is an American tragedy. In 1999, nearly 16,000 people were killed and more than 300,000 were injured as a result of alcohol-related crashes. Reducing alcohol-related traffic fatalities is one of NHTSA’s top priorities. The national goal is to lower the death toll to no more than 11,000 by the year 2005. In support of this national goal, law enforcement, the criminal justice system and community leaders are working in partnership to prevent impaired driving in their neighborhoods, cities, counties and states through tougher enforcement and punishment for impaired driving offenses. Each year, nearly 1.5 million impaired drivers are taken off America’s highways by law enforcement agencies because of tougher laws, sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. While the number of alcohol-related fatalities during holiday periods is at an all-time low (down 34 percent since 1995), impaired driving is still a leading cause of death for people under the age of 30. http://www.healthylivingonline.org/health/3dprevention.html |

If like me, you’ve had a spiritual awakening as a result of these Steps, then you will relate to the wisdom in trusting our Higher Power to help us through life one step at a time—one day at a time.
But the Lord can be trusted to make you strong and protect you from harm (2 Thessalonians 3:3 CEV).
