Last evening I spoke to family members who have a loved one in a substance abuse treatment center. My short presentation dealt with the value of Al-Anon and other 12-Step support programs. As expected, I covered what defines a codependent and how our behavior can fuel the progressive family disease of addiction.

In keeping with the critically important, What you hear here, when you leave here, let it stay here, 12-Step meeting code, I cannot share conversations. I am, however, free to ask that we remember to pray for those who are starting to take their first baby steps toward awareness of self. Even though we all slip at one time or another, we have the promises of a Higher Power who will help get us back on our feet—one step at a time.

God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights (Psalm 18:32-33 NLT).
