May is Better Hearing & Speech Month. The theme for 2019 is, “Communication Across the Lifespan” (ASHA American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).

This information interests me because at nine months of age I underwent a mastoidectomy behind my left ear. Over the years I have continued to experience hearing loss.

But by far, the most disabling communication disorder I ever experienced was when sly old denial whispered in my ear. Initially, I chose to mask the subtle sounds of truth. What about you. In your head, are you denying what you know in your spirit to be true—your life has become unmanageable.

When we allow denial’s warning to be drowned because we are too busy taking care of the noisemakers in our lives, we open ourselves to a disease that will spread and taint all those we love.

Friends, time to get your fingers out of your ears and listen up.

If you think an ear infection is painful, then you may want to consider getting rid of the la-la-la’s of denial.

Day ten of My Resurrected Heart reminds us, “denial” is an infection that contaminates the spirit.” (Jellen 39).

If you have ears, pay attention! (Matthew 11:15 CEV).
