The first Republican Presidential Debate is history. By November 2016, after many other scheduled political debates, a winner will emerge. However, some people who will never run for an elected office continue to engage in an on-going debate no one wins.

I am referring to the life-long dispute between an addict and the co-addict—the Denial”er” and Denial”ee.” These two debaters refuse to admit their lives are unmanageable.

  • Denialee and Denialer do not  graciously stand behind a podium and think logically. They stand behind a wall of untruths.

  • Believing they know best, they refuse to turn their lives and will over to a God of their understanding.

  • There is no moderator in his or her head telling them, Time is up. Stop this insanity and trust a Power greater than yourself.

  • Our two seasoned debaters, Denialer and Denialee are so busy taking each other’s inventory their fail to recognize their positive qualities.

  • Until Denialer and Denialee acknowledge their tug-of-war behavior, they will never experience the honest, spiritual awakening that truth brings.

As I continue to work on my own stubborn denial issues, I am praying we will all find encouragement and growth in the promises of the 11 and 12 Steps.

  1. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

  1. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32 NLT).
