Step 8. We made a list of all the persons we have harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

In order to make amends to all the people I have hurt over my long life I had to push pride, defensiveness, personal resentments aside. Moving the Rock of Gibraltar would have been easier! However, with the gentle, spiritual tone of each of the 12-Steps, I find the courage to continue to make amends whenever possible.

As we grow in recovery, we learn the person we have hurt the most is ourselves. It’s time to begin to love ourselves the way Christ loves us. To value ourselves as our Creator does. To show mercy and throw our transgressions into the ocean, and put up a “No Fishing” sign!

Where is the God who can compare with you … You’ll stamp out our wrongdoing. You’ll sink our sins to the bottom of the ocean (Micah 7:19 MSG).
