Step 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Like me, you may have found the Twelve Steps riddled with detours and setbacks. I believe the reason I’ve made it this far is because my Higher Power gave me—gives us—the courage to turn our journey over to Him.
Many of the steps we traveled on this road to life were concrete risers of hope. Then there were times, we wondered if we had the faith and stamina to lift one foot in front of the other. Along the way, each step challenged our emotional endurance. Yet here we are—looking back on the imprints we left behind.
When we walk and work the Twelve Steps, we leave a lasting impression that leads to a healthy assurance of self. The growth from our personal experiences is what helps us carry the Twelve Step message to others this holiday season and every season of the year.
Bless our God, O peoples! Give him a thunderous welcome! Didn’t he set us on the road to life? Didn’t he keep us out of the ditch? He trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, Brought us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very limit, Road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; Finally he brought us to this well-watered place (Psalm 66:9-12 MSG).
