As of January 2018, there were more than 61,000 Alcoholics Anonymous groups in the United States. Worldwide, the number is over 68,000, with a total of 2,000,000 plus members “working the Steps.” https://www.aa.org/assets/en_US/smf-53_en.pdf
Back in 1935, however, I wonder if Dr. Bob S. and Bill W., co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, ever imagined their initial meeting of two would have multiplied into millions of members across the globe.
Their wise, spiritual vision for recovery wasn’t limited to AA. Over the years other organizations have adopted the 12-Step concept which emphasizes universal – spiritual – values in daily living.
