Step 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Turning over control to God as we understand him – to a Power greater than ourselves – is beyond our common sense understanding!

However, we have more than common sense, we also have a spiritual sense. The principles in the 12 Steps help us sharpen our spiritual sense. The beauty of the 12 Steps is that they gently – or not so gently – take us through the process one day at a time, one Step at a time.

P.S. Spiritual Sense has nothing to do with being “religious.”

“Common sense is a gift which God gave to human nature …Spiritual Sense is the gift of His Son. . . Common sense had never yet detected the Father and never will.” ( August 9 reading from Oswald Chamber’s daily devotional, My Utmost for His Highest).
